6 Exotic yet Affordable Destinations

November 3, 2016 by Izzy Roberts

In a budget scenario, it is disheartening to spend thousands of dollars to visit tourist-oriented resort cities and similar exotic destinations. Well, the good news is that there are plenty of exotic yet affordable vacation destinations across the world. Read on and learn more so you can make an informed decision for your next holiday trip.

St Kitts & Nevis

Esteemed for their sugary sand beaches and picturesque towns, the islands of St Kitts & Nevis are spectacular tropical destinations. St Kitts & Nevis, a two-island country in the West Indies, boasts some world-class tourist spots including the Old Road bay, Sandy Bay and Frigate Bay Peninsula. The Mount Liamuiga’s cloud-fringed peak and dense tropical forests greatly appeal to eco-tourists and nature-lovers. There are inexpensive restaurants offering meals for about $10 per head.

Gambia (Banjul)

Gambia, a tiny African country, is a lively place that still offers a glimpse of authentic Africa. Its colonial history can be seen in crumbling historical structures and an old museum. The busy port, vibrant markets and lush landscapes contribute to a great holiday experience. Banjul, the capital city, is surrounded by serene countryside. The mangrove-lined waterways connecting to the mainland, wetlands and forests offer unique experiences for bird-watchers, fishermen and general explorers. Hotels and restaurants are about 84 percent less expensive than the United States.

Morocco (Marrakech)

Morocco is popular for its ancient fortresses and exotic marketplaces. Deserted beaches, breathtaking mountain ranges and cedar forests are among the spectacular features that make it an exotic destination. Though Morocco’s major cities are costly, the towns on the Saharan border are inexpensive yet thrilling – camel rides, hikes, and much more. You can make the most of your vacation spending less than $50 per day including meals and accommodation.

Jamaica (Montego Bay)

Jamaica is a Caribbean delight with its elegant landscapes, golden beaches and blue mountains. Apart from snorkeling and beach activities, it offers great opportunities for hikers and mountain bikers. The Montego Bay and the west coast form the center of Jamaica’s cultural diversity. There are plenty of cheap flights to Jamaica from major U.S. cities. Accommodations are available from around $75. You can find meals for around $5 on a beach. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from and costs vary.

Peru

Peru is a great base to explore the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu and the Amazon forests. Apart from exploring the Sacred Valley, you can go hiking in the Andes, explore Arequipa’s colonial architecture, fly over the Nazca lines or go boating across the world’s highest lake.  While local restaurants offer a good meal for $1 to $3, in tourist areas you can find eat for less than $5 per head. Lima and Cuzco offer decent accommodations for around $50 per night.

Roatan Island, Hounduras

Just 30 miles off the Hounduras coast, Roatan Island is a Caribbean paradise – blue skies, azure waters, shimmering beaches and year-round sunshine. The island offers plenty of water sports and adventures. It is known for a low crime rate, an added advantage. Budget lodgings are available from $10 per night. Gourmet meals are available from $15 per head.
