Shaped like a green mound, the Magic Mountain Hotel in Chile lives up to its name, reminiscing a fairytale wonderland. Located in the Huilo Huilo Private Natural Reserve, the hotel building is wrapped in greenery and has a cascade showering from its rooftop, adding to the vividness of the ecosystem.
The entire Magic Mountain Hotel is built from wood and stone with large windows looking out to the forest, appearing more or less like a hobbit home. A cable bridge connects to the front door. The name of the surreal structure – Magic Mountain – comes from a book about a mountain with magical powers.
Floors are connected by a stairway spiraling around a central column, such that rooms diverge from the center. Due to the mound-shaped structure, the larger rooms are in the lower floors. Consistent with the theme of the hotel, the furnishings are primarily cut logs with natural twists and bends. The huge windows flood the rooms with natural light augmenting the beauty of the wood décor. There are nine rooms featuring modern amenities. Each room has the name of one of the bird species of the area.
An impressive amenity of the hotel is its hot tub made by digging out huge tree trunks. The tubs are placed on a deck overlooking the beautiful forest, a perfect place to relax with a glass of wine in the evening. Equally impressive is a mini golf course created in the natural forest setting with natural obstacles such as trees. Magic Mountain has a nice restaurant and offers great Chilean wines as well.
Guests have access to year-round skiing and snow-boarding in the six-thousand hectare Huilo Huilo reserve. The hotel makes transportation arrangements to take you to the ski area. Horseback riding, hiking and rafting are other interesting outdoor activities.
